Little Hills tells one of the thousands of stories of Irish people , North and South , Protestant and Catholic, who became the refugees of the 1840s fleeing poverty and famine in their own land to create new lives in America and Canada . This story focuses on the lives of Catherine O’Hare from Rathfriland Ireland and Augustus Schubert from Dresden Germany . They married in America and, together with their 3 children , made the gruelling trip across the Rockies to set up home in Canada. This is a play that brings Catherine’s story back home , using songs and tunes that also crossed the Atlantic and then found their way home again performed by local band Whiskey Before Breakfast .
